MathWisdom is an independent educational initiative committed to developing mathematical thinking and strengthening mathematics education in Sri Lanka — and beyond.

To collaborate with educational institutions to provide structured mathematics programs that strengthen conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and long-term mathematical development — working alongside schools, not in competition with them.
Our Educational Philosophy
We believe students should understand why mathematics works — not simply memorize how to perform it. Our programs are built on four foundational principles.
Conceptual clarity must come before procedural fluency. A student who understands why a method works will adapt when the method changes. A student who only knows the steps will not.
Moving students through content faster does not produce better mathematicians. Strong reasoning ability — built slowly and deliberately — creates long-term mathematical success.
Mathematics should feel like discovery, not compliance. Our programs encourage students to investigate, question, and find delight in mathematical structure.
Students develop mathematical thinking through discussion, argument, and structured problem-solving — not by watching worked solutions on a whiteboard.
Academic Leadership
Founder & President, MathWisdom
Don Sahan Sahabandu is a mathematics educator, mentor, and academic leader dedicated to advancing mathematical thinking and mathematics education in Sri Lanka. Holding a Special First Class Degree in Mathematics, he has guided hundreds of students toward academic excellence and deep conceptual understanding across secondary, advanced, and higher-level mathematics.
Recognizing the need for a structured national initiative to strengthen mathematical literacy, critical thinking, and innovation capacity among young learners, he founded MathWisdom — an independent organization committed to developing mathematics education, nurturing talent, and promoting research-based learning approaches.
He also leads the development of mathmentor.lk — the operational education platform of MathWisdom — designed to provide structured mentoring, advanced training, and accessible mathematics education supported by digital technology.
Executive Director
Responsible for educational coordination, program management, and institutional operations.
Technology Director
Responsible for digital systems, educational technology integration, and the mathmentor.lk platform development.
Academic Oversight
MathWisdom is in the process of establishing a formal Academic Advisory Council comprising university lecturers, senior mathematics educators, and educational research professionals.
The Council will provide independent oversight of academic standards, program quality, and institutional development — ensuring all MathWisdom programs are grounded in current educational research and best practice.
